A .75 PERCUSSION BOBBEJAANBOUD (BABOON'S THIGH) MUSKET, no visible serial number, with 39in. sighted barrel stamped with Birmingham proofs at breech,, borderline engraved Pattern 1853 style lock dated 1872, brass mounted full walnut stock with typical bobbejaanboud butt, raised cheek rest, complete with ramrod.

Provenance: The bobbejaanboud was the weapon of the South African Boers and its design unique to them, apparently the shape of the butt gained it, its nickname. It was designed to be heavy and strong to survive rough usage on the veldt. This is a late example.
